I did (some) of Melissa's Senior pictures today. It rained, so we had to stop. But before we did, we got this little number:

She has lovely eyes, no? Like, actual, real-person, non-super-photoshopped, non-fake eyes, you know? ...I hear an an awkward silence here as people digest all those hyphens and cringe.

It's late, people. Don't judge me.

I'm off to bundle up in some blankets. I guess Summer is officially over!

This couple is so so great. I loved shooting and their house. You really get a feel for what the family is like (awesome) plus it's so much fun to see the nursery and feel their anticipation for their new arrival! This is going to be one lucky baby.Wouldn't you kill for that nursery?!I have to say that the one is my favorite just because of how it happened. I told them that it would only show their hands, not their faces, so they could relax for a minute. Usually people look around in boredom at that point, but they were genuinely looking into each others' eyes and laughing and having a good time together.This is their front porch. Balloons ready and perfect jug already sitting there.

Babies, Babies, Babies!

Lots of people I know have buns in the oven right now. One of them is my dear friend, Rachel. She was in town for the holidays this year so I got to take pictures and throw her a shower. Because Rachel likes cake pops, I wrote to Miss Bakerella to ask her advice on what to make. She told me "baby heads!" So regardless of the hesitation of my family (based on cannibalistic principles), I made the baby heads! It was fun and I think they turned out kind of cute, don't you?
Anyway, we also took some maternity pictures during her visit. This one's my favorite. I can picture it nice and big in the nursery:

It was 28 degrees outside when we did this shoot- which sounds a lot warmer than it felt! It was bitter! But this little boy did amazingly well despite the snow.

Julien has the most beautiful little cherub face! His cheeks are so soft and puffy and his little lips are to die for! But his eyes and lashes take the cake. Why do boys tend to get the best eyelashes?

The Richmond Family

What a fun family. But first I have to say... this lady is EFFICIENT! I love it! Not only did she send me pictures of her kids and what they would be wearing (and change the sweaters when I had reservations about the color), she brought props and came 30 MINUTES EARLY TO THE SHOOT! In my 8 years of photography, I can honestly say that has never happened- even once. I think a few times people have been right on time? Probably? :)
The whole family was really fun to photograph. The little boys were hilarious and cracked up at their "Up Dog" joke about 50 times. It was awesome.Did you ever want to hug squirrely little boys this much? Every time I look at this picture I melt a little! Boys aren't always this sweet. Trust me. I am a Webelos leader. :) I really like how this one turned out. These amazing rocks are just 25 minutes away from me, and I never really go enjoy them.Yes, they're mocking me. I love it when couples bond over the ridiculous things I ask them to do. :)

Yesterday while it was snowing like crazy (really.... I haven't seen this much snow at one time since I was a kid), as everyone else was coming home to escape the cold, I drove through a blizzard to take a picture of a tree in a field. I may or may not have gone over 2 fences, passed some no trespassing signs, and gotten stuck on barbed wire for a couple minutes until I took off my coat and sweater to break free. Today I am enjoying the weather from inside, with a mug of hot cocoa in my hands. That's much better.

My sister looks 20. She is technically 14. But I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be 9, isn't she?! Seems like only yesterday she was 12 and was supposed to be 6.
However old she is, and whether these pictures are FREAKING ME OUT or not, one thing's for sure- she is so beautiful!
(Like sister like sister, right? Eh? :) )Do not call her. This is what I'm talking about, people.My personal favorite. Well, besides the snow one at the beginning. It makes me want to hug her.

The MacDonald Family

When the MacDonalds told me they wanted to do pictures, my response was as demure as always- "WOOOOOOO!!!!!" I was so excited for this really amazingly good-looking family to be on my website! :) And they didn't disappoint.
Oh, and also, may I say what a fabulous smiler the mom is? She had a hard job of constantly pulling runaway children into the picture, and she did it with a perfect and calm smile. And also she figured out which pictures she wanted about 2 hours after I put them up. That's a record, people. By about a week and a half. Oh, and also she's a "sitcom junkie" like me. :)
Man, this little girl has great hair. I had to put in this test shot. You know who it reminds me of? That's right. Woodstock.
I'm not sure why. But I do know it makes me laugh every time I see it!
...Anyway...
I love these next three (especially the last one). You know, 20 years ago, professional photographers didn't get to capture these kinds of things, because you were supposed to always sit and look at the camera. But this is what I love capturing best! I love how much fun they're having playing together. I love that you can see into their lives and relationships a little bit. And at the end of the day, isn't that what you'd rather have in your house?

The Purdoms

This beautiful family was such a pleasure to work with. They were in a terrible car accident last summer, and have had to go through a lot of hard things since then. But instead of being bitter, they have pulled together as a family to make it through. There was so much love and happiness between them- you could feel it just from being around them.
Before I met the Purdoms, their friend Marcy emailed me and said, "They are an amazing family and have handled this accident with grace, dignity, smiles, and an unbelievably positive attitude." I couldn't have said it better myself!There were several with them both smiling, but I just love this one with the sister looking up! It seems so sophisticated! :)Don't worry, ladies, I already asked. I've got you covered. The shirt's from Anthropologie. :)
P.S. ...Seriously? Snow? Already? (soft crying....)

Sweet Tyler

This little kid-o is so stinkin' sweet, I actually got a little misty-eyed editing a couple pictures! I know, I know. But seriously. Just look at him!Ok, I keep going on and on about the great moms lately, but can I just say it again? My moms are the best! This kid was a runner and to say his mom was a huge help would be an enormous understatement.
I was also very touched by their intense love for each other. She would sing a Winnie the Poo song to him and he was so enthralled with it- they'd stare at each others' eyes, and his eyes would just light up and he'd giggle and giggle. It's times like these that I love being a photographer and peeking into the window of lives and relationships like that.
We're doing the whole family tomorrow, so I had to come home and learn the song since she'll have her hands more full!

Meet Nathan- mountain biker, procrastinator, and mechanic extraordinaire! (and a little procrastination never hurt anyone). Nathan's friends came to the shoot to ensure good smiles.
The sun was going down which made for really cool lighting. Also that lady- see- the one with the red shirt and white pants walking her dog really far away? She yelled at us. It was awesome. That's right- no two shoots ever the same, people!And now for the creme de la creme....

I'll be honest, I love how this one turned out! You can't tell how high up he is but he is jumping off of a 3 foot wall that is also on a slope that goes down farther. I'm laying on the ground trying not to be squished.

50 Years

My grandparents recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a family reunion in Durango. I did something really unusual and asked if I could do pictures because the last one that was done was in 1991!

I know what you're thinking- the 90s were good to me (bottom left).

I had an interesting request from miss Marcy and her sister Linsy last week to do a shoot with their photobooth. It's a really, really nice booth that they take all over the city to rodeos and weddings and all sorts of events. They wanted a shoot in a (quote) "great location." That's right, people! Great location! That always makes me excited. :)
We found a couple of amazing blue walls behind a strip mall in an alleyway somewhere and knew it was The Place.
This shoot was so much fun! It was weird- the booth didn't cry, didn't run away, didn't whine.... it was very strange for me!
Marcy had the perfect outfits for herself and her children, and Lindsay had some really fabulous props from the Goodwill. Seriously, people, it was fun.

Rosenbaum Girls

This is the other shoot that I attribute to the mother. Melissa had heard about how much better kids usually do in the shoot when their parents aren't right there, and she took it to heart. She decked the girls out in adorable outfits, and then stolled around the park whilst we got some great smiles! It was *awesome!* The girls are so beautiful and so funny. They each have their own personalities, that's for sure. We had a really great time. After the main part of the shoot we drew with chalk and got some fun pictures of the girls playing.The littlest one was pooped by this time, and when we handed out chalk she laid down on the pavement to draw circles.

The Norris Family

There were two shoots this week that I can attribute the success of to the mothers. This is one of them. Tiffany was so wonderful through every step of this. We had to do a reshoot because of some technical difficulties and she was very accomodating and relaxed. She was also very flexible about traveling to the best spots, and very prepared with her son's outfits, toys, etc. Her stress-free attitude helped keep her little guy happy, too. Ok, even though these are in the collage I had to make them bigger here so you can see them. I know that you won't believe this (because if I saw it someplace else, I wouldn't), but *I did NOT Photoshop this kid's eyes!* True story! I darkened the whole picture a little but that was it. His eyes are seriously amazing. Look out, little girls! He's going to be a heartbreaker! I call this one "Oh, Hello, Mr. Dog..." She had him laughing so hard...

This is my favorite, and I can't decide if I like the regular color or the cross-processed... ...Cross-processed.

Trent's Seniors

He didn't want to do it... but I'm glad he did! It was fun for me, anyway! :) I tried to make it painless. Trenton is a witty LaCrosse player- and expert tiler, if anyone wants a kitchen redone.

We almost didn't get to do the shoot with all the rain that day, but it slowed down just long enough for us to get some good pictures before it rained again.

Alright, alright, I have to brag about this cute little girl. I don't know any other little 3 year olds who would sit perfectly still and not move for 30 minutes while a whole crew of people is chasing around a frog. She was the perfect angel model! She loved the frog and would touch it, smile at it, ask where it went.... she was fabulous! I have wanted to do a shoot with a frog for over 5 months and was so happy to have her to work with. And Timmy, the frog, did an applaudable job as well.

This was a nice test shot near the end that happened to get in everyone helping me. My thanks to the whole crew!-All for now-

Sweet Sweet Baby

I love newborns! I love capturing their teeny little button noses, love their shaky little hands and toes, and I especially love doing it in their own house! My friend Roberta just had a baby and we were able to take pictures in his room that she's worked so hard to make just right for his arrival. She was so so tired! I believe her words were "you ask me if I want a million dollars, or sleep for one night.... I take sleep for one night." I was glad that she still put up with me because newborn pictures are the best! (And so are her cheekbones- look at that!)
By the way, this baby could just look and look at the camera until the cows came home. No week-and-a-half old does that!

These two girls were so sweet. They loved playing in the leaves we gathered and throwing them up in the air! I saw the little one about a month later and she asked me, "Jenn? Can we roll around in the leaves and play pictures again?" Any time, Tori. Any time. I wish all the grown ups had that much fun getting their pictures taken!

The Roskelleys

It was to be expected with the Roskelleys- these were really fun to take. I love this whole family & you just never know what crazy things they’ll do- they even had their own dance party at the end! Clients do that all the time, though…
Sadie (the 2-year-old) was so good and she has the biggest smile! It’s so entertaining to hear her laugh and even more entertaining to see the great lengths everyone will go to to hear it!
P.S. It was looking rather drab outside in November and I was reminded again of how wonderful the Rocky Mountains are- purple (ish brown) mountains majesty no matter the season.

After photographing this little boy we were able to do some family pictures this week. Once again the weather was crummy, but they were all good sports about it and you can't even tell it was raining! The Blackfords have such a wonderful family bond that you can see just from the way that they look at each other. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to capture that on film.

Ah, my favorite senior of all time. It could be perhaps that she's my sister... naw. It was the modeling skills alone. We had a wonderful time & because we were both able to be flexible with our schedules, we shot over a period of a few days. This was one of my favorite days because of the New York look we were going for. Plus how many times do you get to shoot with an umbrella?

I love to decorate, play games, and laugh. I love Friends, Lost, and Twilight. I wish Spiral Macaroni & Cheese was healthier so I could eat it more than once a week. I am *obsessed* with chocolate. I like genealogy, vintage things, and pretty dresses from the 40s.

I also have a rare form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which means my joints can come out of socket at any given moment. It is very painful- all the time. This is why you might see me with braces on my fingers or with crutches before a session. During a shoot, I get enough adrenaline pumping through my system that everything seems to stay in place pretty well; sometimes I can even run back and forth from my camera! I do need to pack up quickly after a shoot, because as soon as the adrenaline wears off my joints tend to come out of socket in mass quantity.

I love photography and creating art that captures a story, an instant of time that can be hung on a wall for generations. I see beauty in everything and love to help preseve it for you!
